The World Health Organization (WHO) is calling on countries around the world to investigate cases of pneumonia of unspecified origin at the end of 2019 to identify possible cases of COVID-19 before the official outbreak in China, the WHO press center reports on May 5. The WHO statement comes after information emerged about an early case of COVID-19 in France, a French hospital that re-tested old tests of patients with pneumonia found a patient with coronavirus as early as December 27, 2019. The outbreak in Chinese Wuhan was not announced until 31 December. At the same time, the French patient, a fish dealer, had nothing to do with China and did not travel to China. This gives a completely new picture, said the representative of WHO Christian Lindmeier at a briefing in Geneva, commenting on information from France.
